About Joachim

Joachim studied Computer Science at the University of Leiden, and graduated in the field of medical image analysis. Afterwards he taught Media Technology classes at the university, then an upcoming program where the arts of image and sound join with information technology. From 2004 until 2010 he headed an IT department within the university as a part-time job; the other half of the week was spent developing innovative web applications for the marketing department. He educated himself further in the field of website accessibility, and advanced SEO methods. And in the year 2010, he started ByteDESiGN.

Technology and science

If there is one things that describes Joachim, it is that he is always inquisitive about the way everything work. With regards to the field of computer science and web-related technologies, this is part of the list that he is experienced in:

C, C++, Java, Perl, Ruby, PHP, Code Igniter, JavaScript, jQuery, Prototype, Processing, MooTools, AJAX, HTML5, CSS, XML, Apache2, Lighttpd, NginX, MySQL, MongoDB, MS SQL Server, Eclipse, MS IIS, .net, Tridion, Flash, Shell scripting, SNMP, Speech synthesis, and SEO search engine optimalisations.

He is proficient with the following design tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, Visio, Premiere and their FOSS counterparts.

When heading the IT department, he developed for Windows and Novell SP6.5 and OES2, but mainly focused on Linux integration with the different infrastructure available to a university. Among those technologies are Cisco IOS, Firewalls, Xen and VMWare virtualisations, both video conferencing (skype) as video telepresence (LifeSize, Polycom), streaming video, Asterisk voip telephony, sms gateways, and storage solutions, again ranging from small (rsync) to big (multipathing fiberchannel SAN & tape).
